As Sr. Embedded Software Engineer, you will be responsible for software/firmware function enhancement projects, analyzing issues reported by QA or from production chargers in the field. As a key member of our global EV Charging R&D Engineering team, you’ll have the opportunity to learn and master our e-mobility software/firmware architecture and stacks. ABB e-Mobility’s goal is to help our customers electrify mobility!

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Work collaboratively with business partners and customers to analyze customer requirements, define system technical specifications, and design, develop & enhance embedded software and firmware to optimize system performance and reliability
  • Plan, perform and document unit tests
  • Analyze test results and present findings at technical design reviews to ensure design robustness, efficiency, future maintainability, and supportability
  • As subject matter expert for EV Charging Embedded Software, you’ll interact and communicate frequently with Technical Project Managers and Product Marketing Managers
  • Proactively evaluate third party and open-source software modules
  • Support software QA, help to resolve site deployment issues

 

To make the above work, we need someone with:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field is required with a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in embedded software engineering.
  • Must have Programming experience in C, C++, and Java.
  • Very strong analytical skills required, with an inquisitive engineering problem solving mindset required
  • Exceptional English language speaking, reading and writing absolutely required
  • Master’s degree, and/or direct industry knowledge of electric vehicle charging, a plus
  • Should be very comfortable working in a highly collaborative, global team environment
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US

 

You will stand out if you have any of the following preferred qualifications:

  • Knowledge of EV Charging Industry Protocols (OCPP) and Standards is a strong plus (ISO 15118, IEC 63110, IEC 62196, IEC 61851)
  • Comfortable in developing and in debugging software applications on Linux
  • Software version control/configuration management tools, defect tracking tools, and peer review
  • OS coding techniques, IP protocols, and application programming interfaces
  • Messaging bus-based software system integration
  • Web (server and client) programming
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally required.
