ABB E-mobility is a global leader in electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure and services, delivering high-performance charging solutions to customers across Europe, North America, and beyond. We are a pioneer leading a once-in-a-generation transformation of our transportation system toward a more productive and sustainable future.

Within ABB E-mobility, we are building a new venture focused on an end-to-end managed offering that brings together hardware, software, and operational excellence into a unified service model. This is a unique opportunity to join a fast-scaling, high-impact business where you will play a key role in structuring the legal and financial frameworks for our next growth chapter.

At ABB E-mobility, we have the clear goal of driving diversity and inclusion across all dimensions: gender, LGBTQ+, abilities, ethnicity, and generations. Together, we are embarking on a journey where each and every one of us, individually and collectively, welcomes and celebrates individual differences.

About the role

We are looking for a Global Legal Counsel – Special Projects to serve as the primary legal architect for our new venture. This isn't about maintaining the status quo. You will be designing legal structures from the ground up, driving complex commercial negotiations, and creating the frameworks that will define how we bring groundbreaking managed services to market.

You will be responsible for planning and implementing projects from inception to closing, ensuring our managed service models are commercially viable and legally robust. This role demands someone who can move at startup speed while upholding the rigorous standards of a global organization.

You will join a fast-moving team where priorities shift quickly;  challenges arrive without warning, and ready-made solutions rarely exist. Success here requires grit, speed, relentless ownership, and the ability to build legal infrastructure where none exists today.

Your key responsibilities :

Strategic Legal Architecture

  • Lead the end-to-end legal setup of our new business venture, including foundational structures, governance frameworks, and commercial architectures required to offer managed services to the market
  • Design and implement the legal architecture for innovative products and business initiatives, including the integration of financial service capabilities into our offerings
  • Create original transaction documents and commercial agreements for both customers and suppliers, building frameworks where templates don't exist

Commercial Execution

  • Act as the primary driver for high-stakes, project-based commercial transactions, leading negotiations to closure while balancing profitability with rigorous risk management
  • Take full ownership of drafting and revising complex transaction documents, demonstrating ability to create and iterate on contractual provisions from scratch
  • Provide creative and practical legal solutions to novel challenges where ready-made blueprints do not yet exist

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Work closely with global colleagues, external partners, and local legal functions to source jurisdictional information and ensure all projects align with company standards
  • Prepare risk-based analyses and executive summaries for senior management, translating complex legal structures into actionable business insights
  • Plan and implement projects from inception to closing, coordinating across business functions and geographies

Your background

To thrive in this role, you will need to combine deep expertise with the resilience to build from the ground up.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Law, LLM, Juris Doctor, or equivalent legal qualification from a reputable institution. Qualified to practice law in the UK, Netherlands, Belgium, or another relevant European jurisdiction. Common law qualifications are preferred.
  • 8+ years of post-qualification experience, with substantial time spent at a leading international law firm or in a multinational in-house legal department
  • Proven track record drafting, negotiating, and closing high-value commercial contracts and managing sophisticated commercial deals
  • Demonstrated ability to create and iterate on contractual provisions from scratch rather than relying on existing templates
  • Experience in cross-border transactions and international legal environments
  • Demonstrated success in stakeholder management, with the ability to build strong working relationships and communicate effectively with senior management
  • Fluency in English with exceptional communication, presentation, and networking skills
  • Willingness to travel internationally up to 25% of your time

Highly Desirable

  • Exposure to project-based contracting models and structured finance
  • Experience within the transportation or EV charging industry
  • Commercial legal background demonstrating versatility to navigate both enterprise (B2B) and consumer-facing (B2C) markets
  • Specific familiarity with legal frameworks for reseller models, payment flows, and the complexities of acting as a merchant of record
  • Proficiency in additional European languages
  • Track record working in high-growth or entrepreneurial environments where legal frameworks are being built in real-time

What We're Looking For

Beyond the qualifications, we're looking for someone with the following attributes:

  • Builder mentality: You thrive in environments where you're creating infrastructure, not just maintaining it
  • Entrepreneurial spirit: You are comfortable with ambiguity and energized by the opportunity to shape something from the ground up
  • Commercial pragmatism: You balance legal rigor with business reality, finding solutions that protect the company while enabling growth
  • Ownership and accountability: You take full responsibility for outcomes and drive projects to completion
  • Resilience: You remain composed under pressure and adapt quickly when priorities shift
  • Collaborative leadership: You work effectively across cultures, time zones, and functions to achieve shared goals

Why Join Us

This is an opportunity to combine the impact and autonomy of a startup role with the resources, reach, and stability of a global leader in sustainable transportation infrastructure. You will be working at the intersection of innovation and execution, with the backing of ABB E-Mobility's world-class legal and business teams.

If you're ready to build something meaningful, take on challenges that will stretch your capabilities, and play a defining role in a transformative business initiative, we'd love to hear from you.

Work with the best specialists in their field, in a diverse environment with unparalleled global reach. Feel inspired by our fast-growth. You will have the accountability to own your part in enabling a future of sustainable and efficient mobility. You can also count on a competitive compensation package in line with your capabilities and experience. Diversity, inclusion and equal opportunities are at the core of what we do. We celebrate different experiences and perspectives, and we aim to empower everyone in the creation of sustainable solutions for people all over the world. Our individual differences make us successful.
