Launch your career in e-mobility by helping shape the manufacturing test solutions behind next-generation EV charging technology. At ABB E-mobility, we are accelerating the transition to sustainable transportation through innovative charging solutions. We are looking for a Test Automation Engineer to join our Operations Test Engineering team and contribute to the development, deployment, and continuous improvement of automated manufacturing test solutions for high-power AC/DC and DC/DC conversion systems used in EV charging products. This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer at the beginning of their career who is passionate about power electronics, test automation, and manufacturing technologies. You will work closely with experienced engineers across power electronics, firmware, manufacturing, quality, compliance, and supplier teams, gaining hands-on exposure to the full manufacturing test lifecycle, from prototype development to mass production.
Your Responsibilities
- Support the development and implementation of automated manufacturing test methods for AC/DC and DC/DC converter stages, ensuring reliable verification of electrical performance, safety, isolation, efficiency, thermal behavior, protection functions, calibration data, and communication interfaces.
- Contribute to the definition of manufacturing test coverage for power modules and converter systems, ensuring compliance with product, quality, safety, and production requirements.
- Participate in the full manufacturing-test lifecycle, supporting activities from early prototypes and engineering builds through pilot production, process qualification, ramp-up, mass-production release, production monitoring, and continuous improvement.
- Help translate converter specifications, electrical architectures, manufacturing requirements, safety constraints, and engineering changes into effective and production-ready test strategies.
- Support the definition, automation, deployment, and industrialization of production test equipment, fixtures, and test benches, collaborating with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
- Contribute to the creation and maintenance of traceability documentation by linking requirements, test specifications, measurement limits, calibration records, production logs, failure codes, release criteria, and quality metrics.
- Investigate and analyze manufacturing test failures, supporting root-cause analysis activities to distinguish between design, firmware, component, thermal, fixture, or process-related issues and helping drive corrective actions based on data.
- Collaborate with power electronics, firmware, manufacturing, quality, field service, compliance teams, external laboratories, and suppliers to resolve technical issues and maintain high standards for converter testing.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing first-pass yield, improving test repeatability, reducing cycle time, strengthening defect containment, and enhancing overall manufacturing test effectiveness.
Your Background
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Electronics, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Up to 3 years of experience gained through professional roles, internships, thesis projects, research activities, university projects, laboratory work, or similar exposure in power electronics, electrical testing, industrial test equipment, laboratory validation, or production test automation.
- Basic understanding of AC/DC and DC/DC converter principles, including rectification, power factor correction, isolated conversion, regulation, switching behavior, efficiency, ripple, thermal management, and protection functions.
- Strong interest in manufacturing test engineering, production automation, quality improvement, first-pass yield optimization, and industrialization activities from prototype to volume production.
- Hands-on familiarity with electrical instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, electronic loads, power analyzers, current probes, thermal sensors, and data acquisition systems.
- Knowledge of at least one automation or programming environment such as Python, C#, LabVIEW, TestStand, MATLAB, or similar tools.
- Ability to read electrical schematics, understand test-bench architectures, follow wiring diagrams, and support the integration of instrumentation, cooling systems, contactors, fixtures, and data-logging solutions.
- Familiarity with structured documentation, test procedures, measurement records, issue tracking, version control practices, and traceability between requirements, tests, limits, and results.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, ownership mindset, adaptability, attention to quality, and effective communication skills for working in cross-functional and supplier-facing environments.
- Fluency in English. Knowledge of EV charging standards (OCPP, IEC 61851, ISO 15118), Azure technologies, distributed-system testing, microservices testing, performance or security testing, or certifications in Test Automation, Quality Assurance, Agile, or DevOps methodologies would be considered a plus.
